  • Trey Burton listed as starter · Jul 28, 2018

The Bears released their first unofficial depth chart which showed Trey Burton as the starter ahead of Adam Shaheen and veteran Dion Sims

There's no real surprise here as Burton has shown to be a capable "move" tight end with exceptional skills and plus-level athleticism while in Philadelphia. The 26 year old Burton will get his first chance to be an every-down tight end in an offense needing an upgrade in its passing attack. In 2017, behind starter Zach Ertz, Burton reeled in 23 receptions (30 targets) for 248 and five touchdowns. Should he retain a starting role, he's in line to well outproduce that level of production in 2018. Burton is found as DLF's TE11 and, unsurprisingly, his ADP (82) is at a career high and rising.

  • Trey Burton showing leadership · Jun 5, 2018

Recently acquired tight end, Trey Burton, is a quiet leader.

Burton projects as the Bears' TE1 but he'll need to earn the role in competition with 2017 rookie selection Adam Shaheen and recently resigned veteran Zach Miller. In Head Coach Matt Nagy's offense, Burton will play the "U" tight end position, a hybrid role that would find him all over the field in multiple in multiple sets. he was signed due to his versatility in combination with his speed, route quickness and intelligence. He's has not been a vocal leader but one who leads by example. The 26 year old Burton is found as DLF's TE11 and his ADP (116) rests at a career high.

  • Trey Burton to sign with Chicago · Mar 13, 2018

Free agent tight end Trey Burton will reportedly sign a four-year, $32 million contract with the Chicago Bears.

This is a curious signing for Chicago and it likely means the end of the Dion Sims era in the Windy City. Even if Sims is released, Burton will have to compete with Adam Shaheen for targets at the position and likely won't be a truly featured option at tight end. Time will tell just how this shakes out but owners of Burton were likely hoping he'd land somewhere a little more desirable. That being said, he'll be used more in Chicago than Philadelphia and could simply beat out Shaheen when all is said and done. It's clear the Bears, much like the Chiefs, are going all in with their young quarterback and dedicating themselves to finding weapons at every position possible in an attempt to make life easier for their young signal caller.

  • Trey Burton excels on Sunday. Free agent in '18! · Dec 12, 2017

Trey Burton, free agent in 2018, replaced Zach Ertz and promptly scored twice

Burton excelled in replacement of the injured Zach Ertz on Sunday, finishing with five receptions on six targets for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Ertz continued to have a "dull headache" into Sunday morning and was eventually scratched from the contest, pressing Burton into action. Burton currently carries virtually no ranking in dynasty formats and is a free agent in 2018. This combination makes for an intriguing addition now in hopes that he lands a starter's role next year. Add him in all formats if you have roster space!
